 ABOUT FILM FESTIVAL

14th Inter National Film Festival of Kerala- my first experience as a deligate; I felt it as a platform to know different cultures. I was able to watch 23 films.

From the competition section I watched four films: ABOUT ELLY by Asghar Farhadi; TRUE NOON by Nosir Saidov; THE FLY IN THE ASHES by Gabriela David; and MASANGALES by Beatriz Flores Silva.

Out of these four films I like ABOUT ELLY the most for its technical perfection and originality. All the characters in this film had done their work perfectly to give the film a real touch.

In the world cinema section I watched nine films TREELESS MOUNTAIN a Korean film by So Yong Kim was the first film I watched in the 14th IFFK. This film is the story of Jim and her little sister Bin who were left alone by their parents. Their mother left them with their big aunt, so that she can go in search of their missing father. The two children plants a dry tree in a hope that it will grow green. This dry tree symbolizes their life. They don't even know that their hope will remain hope itself. The name TREELESS MOUNTAIN exactly matches this story as the Treeless Mountain symbolises the Hopeless life of two children.

Iran film SHIRIN by Abbas Kiarostami achieved victory in his experiment. This is a film that includes another film within. The film in the film is introduced to us through sound tracks. I noticed a mistake in this film SHIRIN. We are introduced with 112 Iranian women watching the perfomance of a Persian mythical story in a theatre. We can clearly noticed the good and exact expression in the face of the lady whom the camera is focusing. But the lady seen in the background was sitting without any expression and this repeated many a times throughout the film.

Another Iranian film in which I noticed mistake is BE CALM AND COUNT TO SEVEN by Ramtin Lavafipour. In this film the main character is Motu, who belongs to a gang dealing with smuggled goods. These smuggled goods includes electrical appliances like TV. In a scene, being chased by the police the gang members were running carrying the smuggled goods (which should be too heavy) faster thanthe police as if they were running with thermocols in their hands.
